ABOUT THIS BOOK
At last! Here's a book that offers parents and daycare providers unique and simple ways to stimulate and entertain multiage children, from babies and toddlers to preschoolers and school-age kids.
Each activity promotes ways to:- Teach kids of different ages to share and work together.
- Strengthen relationships among siblings by having fun.
- Encourage empathy and patience by helping one another.
- Stimulate physical, mental, and emotional growth by moving, thinking, and imagining together.
- Celebrate holidays and create family traditions.
The Siblings Busy Book is based on the idea that siblings who play together form strong relationships that will last a lifetime. It should be required reading for anyone raising or teaching twins, multiples or multi-age children.
WHAT DOUBLE UP BOOKS SAYS This book is everything that it says it is and more! Winter in New England is a dreary time so now that my twins are a little older I've been spending a lot of time figuring out what types of activities I could do with them to entertain and educate them indoors. This book has come to the rescue. Chapters are dedicated to activities within one theme such as Music & Movement, Rainy Day Fun, In the Kitchen, and Seasons & Holidays to name just a few of them - there are 11 chapters in total. If you have children of different ages, each activity has a chart that shows the appropriate age groups for each activity as well as variations to incorporate for each different age group. What I really like is that each activity also includes a list of what you'll need to complete the activity. But most importantly, the activities use regular everyday items you can find around your house.
I'm really a novice when it comes to coming up with activities for my twins on my own. I get trapped in the Play-Doh, painting, drawing cycle with them. I thought this book was not only helpful in sparking my creativity, but it was filled with useful tips too. For example, we have a ton of magnetic letters, but they tend to scratch my refridgerator surface so we don't use them. The authors suggest using metal cookie sheets instead, which also allows my twins and I to sit at the table instead of standing by the refridgerator.
