ABOUT THE BOOK One year, Kim Lavine decided to make Christmas presents for her boys’ teachers. She filled a homemade pillow with feed corn, it could be stuck in a freezer or heated in a microwave to comfort aches and pains—a personal spa in a pillow. This practical, step-by-step guide follows Kim as she develops her product, named a Wuvit, into a multi-million dollar business. She shares everything she learned the hard way from years of trial and error, including:
• How to develop and patent an idea while saving thousands
• How to make a cold call
• How to get on QVC
• How to work a trade show
• How to develop an “elevator pitch”
• How to break down the doors of big retailers
• Everything you need to know about manufacturing and distribution
• How to raise capital
About the Author Kim Lavine is a Mommy Millionaire, and founder and president of Green Daisy, Inc, whose product line and distribution is growing exponentially every month. She was nominated for the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award in 2005. A former journalist, Kim lectures and offers seminars for stay-at-home moms on how to start and run their own businesses. She is an award-winning, published writer, and winner of the Godfrey Award for fiction. Kim resides in Grand Haven, Michigan with her husband Dave and their two sons.
DOUBLE UP BOOKS SAYS I'm currently reading this book and it is filled with all sorts of tips and information to help the WAHM be successful. Kim writes in a friendly and "matter of fact" way - she makes you feel like you are sitting at the kitchen table drinking coffee with her. She breaks down business and marketing terms so that everyone can understand what they will need to do to operate their own business. If you are just starting out or thinking about owning your own business, then this is the book for you. If you've been in business for awhile and want to read about one woman's very successful story, I would still recommend this book. I particularly enjoyed reading about how to get on QVC. Although I have no intentions of doing so myself, as a "QVC junkie" I love hearing "behind the scenes" stories about them.
This book is part of an ongoing series for Mom Pack members called "Moms in Business." We'll be featuring a new book every few weeks about successful moms in business. If you would like to be emailed when a new title is announced, please send us an email at info@doubleupbooks.com.
